What to know before you faux
- Hire a professional for as many tasks as possible. We often are hired to fix an amateur painter’s work, and that is a waste of good time and effort.
- Whether you are hiring a designer or architect or painter, your personalities should “mesh,” with good interaction and emotional trust. You invite these people in to portray who you are and they should be like-minded with you.
- Ask for references. Photos of faux never do it justice. Visit commercial spaces they have done. We have a list of 20 places where you can see our work on that level. We have many customers who would open their house joyfully to show you what we have done together. Go see the work on a real-life scale.
- If you’re going with straight paint, expect to live with that paint for about seven to ten years. So experiment liberally with different swatches of color on the wall itself – at least 3 X 3 feet. Invest in a small jar or quart before you invest in a painting crew.
- If you’re wondering whether faux is appropriate for your house or budget, we offer a free consultation. Once in a while it turns out that faux is not the best choice for your space. If you have too much going on with texture and art, we may suggest that a beautiful subtle color is all you need, and will be happy to consult with you on color choices.
- For art collectors, we do faux as a subtle backdrop that will not compete with textured fabrics, oriental rugs, or artwork. In fact, almost anyone can have faux -- it’s simply a matter of how subtle or dramatic the faux should be.
